Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], October 10 : Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre said on Thursday that rainfall over certain regions of Tamil Nadu is likely to continue for the week, and added that there are "well marked low pressure areas" over the Arabian sea and cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.
"At the coastal region and many places at interiors of Tamil Nadu, at present we have well-marked low-pressure area over the east-central Arabian sea, another cyclonic circulation lies over the Bay of Bengal of Tamil Nadu coast. So under the influence of these two systems which are likely to persist and Arabian sea is likely to concentrate into depression in two-to-three days," said S Balachandran, Director of Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre.
He further said that rainfall activities is likely to continue from today to one week, with heavy rainfall expected in few districts in north coastal districts of Tamil Nadu.
"Many places are likely to get moderate rainfall. As far as heavy rainfall is concerned, later we would get interior districts information and the adjoining districts. On 13 and 14th, north coastal Tamil Nadu, particularly on 13th we expect one or two districts in the delta districts, and on 14th we in the Chennai area as of now. But it all depends upon how the systems interact," he said.
He further talked about the fishermen warning issued earlier, "As far as fishermen warning is concerned, they are told not to venture into the south Tamil Nadu, Gulf of Mannar in the next two to three days, this is because of the presence of the low pressure system over the Arabian sea side, which is likely to develop, so fishermen are also advised not to venture into the Kerala coast and Karnataka coast as well as East Central Arabian sea, we are expecting that."
In Chennai, the regional IMD said that they expect the rainfall activity is likely to increase in the coming two to three days.
