Aug 22, 2024
New Delhi [India], August 22 : In a significant step to enhance the security of government hospitals, the Vishnu Deo Sai government in Chhattisgarh has now directed the deployment of retired army personnel in hospitals.
Following directives from the Chief Minister, armed retired army personnel will now be deployed in all government hospitals across the state. This measure aims to strengthen hospital and staff security, particularly in light of a recent serious incident at the RG Kar medical college in Kolkata involving a medical student, which has raised nationwide concerns about hospital security.
Acting on the Chief Minister's instructions, the state's Health Minister inspected key government hospitals in the capital city of Raipur. During the visit, the Minister reviewed security arrangements and issued further directives to ensure that security is robust and foolproof.
In response to the Kolkata incident, doctors across the country went on strike, demanding better security measures. The strike ended following an appeal from the Supreme Court. Addressing the concerns raised by doctors, the Chhattisgarh government has decided to deploy retired army personnel to safeguard hospitals.
This initiative is expected to significantly enhance hospital security, boost the morale of both patients and staff and deter potential wrongdoers.
This move comes amid nationwide protest over the murder and rape of a second-year trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar medical hospital.
Meanwhile, the Bhartiya Janata party workers on Thursday staged a protest against the rape and murder of the PG-trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
BJP leaders, including LoP Suvendu Adhikari and MLA Agnimitra Paul, and workers stage a protest outside the premises of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, however, they were later detained by the Kolkata Police.
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday approached Kolkata High Court for permission to conduct a polygraph test on RG Kar Medical College and Hospital's ex-principal, Dr Sandip Ghosh, and four doctors after finding discrepancies in their statements during the investigation.
A senior CBI official informed that they have approached the court for permission and after getting the permission, the polygraph test will be conducted.
"We will corroborate their statements with the result of the polygraph test to verify their statement given to the agency," the official added.
