Pune (Maharashtra) [India], June 2 : A day after the exit polls predicted a strong mandate for the Bharatiya Janata Party including the possibility of getting seats in Kerala, former Union Minister Prakash Javadekar claimed that people have voted for the progress and future of the country.
Speaking to ANI, Javadekar said, "The exit polls have been quite accurate for the last four elections. The mood of the nation is reflected in the exit poll."
He also said that the BJP will get a 20-24 per cent vote share in Kerala, adding that the Christian community have voted for the party in huge numbers.
"I was in charge in Kerala, the way all our leaders and workers campaigned for the polls. Our votes have almost doubled from 12 per cent last time, it can go to 20-24 per cent. This is because the Christian community has voted in huge numbers," Javadekar said.
"Congress also started doing communal politics like the Communist party. This has happened due to PM Modi. 2 crore out of 3.5 crore people in the state have received benefits from central schemes. People are also impressed by the development in infrastructure," he added.
The former Information and Broadcasting Minister said that BJP will emerge as the party having the most MPs from the southern states in the Lok Sabha elections.
"A lot of people from Kerala work outside India, they are also feeling that India's reputation has risen globally and they should vote for BJP...People have trusted in PM Modi's leadership, they have voted for the future of the nation, and their children, and we are confident that we will perform even better than the exit poll predictions," he said.
Taking a jibe at the Congress, Javadekar said, "Kharge ji was saying that South will become free of BJP, now BJP will be having the most MPs in the southern states."
The exit polls showed that the Bharatiya Janata Party would make further inroads in the south and is likely to open its account in Kerala in the Lok Sabha polls.
In Kerala, the Axis My India exit poll predicted that the BJP-led NDA is to win 2-3 seats in Kerala. It said Congress-led UDF would win 17-18 seats and LDF, led by CPI-M, is expected to win 0-1 seat.
