Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 18 : The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) held a state-wide protest in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday against the "anti-worker" policies of the BJP-led government at the Centre.
The protesters demanded the abrogation of the new Labour Codes, which they said were anti-worker.
Vijender Mehra, the CITU State President, alleged that the Narendra Modi government's policies are only benefiting the rich and are against workers.
"The BJP government at the Centre brought Labour Cods during COVID time. They also tried to implement anti-farmer farm laws. Though the Asha workers were assured regularisation of jobs, the government did not fulfil the promise. The New Labour Codes will create a bonded labour system in the country. Hence, we demand the annulment of the new labour codes," he added.

The four Labour Codes were passed in Parliament in 2019 and 2020. Recently, the Union Labour Ministry started efforts to implement these codes. Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Union Labour Secretary Sumita Dawra have started meeting representatives of various trade unions, seeking their cooperation to implement the legislation.
Because of the opposition of the trade unions, the codes are yet to be operational.
