New Delhi [India], October 17 : After the tragic death of 20 people in Siwan and 4 people in Chapru due to the consumption of spurious liquor, former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav on Thursday attacked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and said that the CM and his kitchen cabinet were pioneers of immoral and unprincipled politics.
Taking to social media X, Tejaswi Yadav wrote in a post "27 people have been killed due to poisonous liquor under government protection. Dozens have lost their eyesight. There is a so-called liquor ban in Bihar but due to the nexus between ruling party leaders, police, and mafia, liquor is available at every square and intersection."
Further, he wrote, "So many people died but Chief Minister Nitish Kumar did not even express condolences. Hundreds of Biharis die every day due to poisonous liquor and crime but this is a normal thing for the Chief Minister and his kitchen cabinet, who are pioneers of immoral and unprincipled politics."
"No matter how many people are killed, how can any senior officer be prosecuted? On the contrary, will they be rewarded? If despite the liquor ban, liquor is available at every square and corner, then is this not the failure of the Home Department and the Chief Minister? Is the Chief Minister sensible? Is the CM capable and competent to take action and think about such incidents? Who is responsible for these murders?" Tejashwi Yadav added.
RJD leader Manoj Kumar Jha said that the official figures were more than what had come out in front of the people.
Speaking to ANI, Jha said "These accidents are happening again and again. This is a complete syndicate. The official figures have just come out but the news is more than that. The syndicate is operating in the name of prohibition and it is very powerful. The government is incompetent. The most influential people in power are protecting it and the poor people are dying in it. This is a very powerful syndicate."
BJP leader Nitin Nabin said, "Action will be taken against all those who were involved in this. If the CM has ordered a liquor ban, he has taken action in such cases as well. This matter has also been taken cognisance of by the CM."
Bihar Excise Minister Ratnesh Sada said an SIT had been former to investigate the cause of the hooch tragedy.
"We stand with the families of the deceased in these grave times... The culprits will not be spared. Officials and concerned police personnel in the area have been suspended... 22 people are undergoing treatment. 3 people have lost their eyesight. 2 people have lost their lives in Chhapra and 6 have died in Siwan. SIT has been formed," he said.
