CM Manik Saha inaugurates 4th International Agarwood Conclave, calls Agar trees "gift" for Tripura

Agartala (Tripura) [India], December 2 : Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurating the 4th International Agarwood Conclave and Buyer & Seller Meet 2024 on Monday, and said that Agar trees are a gift for the state.
"This is a great gift for the state of Tripura...The raisins from the Agar trees can be used to make perfume and many other things. Many things can also be made from the wood of the Agar trees...This conference is being held in Tripura for the fourth time...People from all over the world attended this conference...," said Manik Saha.
The agarwood industry in Tripura has received support from the state and central governments. The industry is also working to gain GI tagging for agarwood to help with economic growth and recognition.
Tripura being the number one state in India to produce Agar Wood has tremendous potential to produce Agar & Tripura has exported a record number of the same in the last few years & has been successful in drawing the attention of buyers from the global market.
Tripura is a major producer of agarwood and is becoming a hub for the agarwood trade production
The Kadamtala block in the North District is the largest producer of agarwood in Tripura. Agarwood from Tripura is in high demand abroad and is exported to India and the Middle East.
The state and central governments have provided significant support to the agarwood industry, including a planned investment of over Rs 400 crore.
As per report, the total number of agarwood trees estimated in the non-forest areas of Tripura is more than 5 million covering about 2,000 hectares of plantations in the state.
