New Delhi [India], January 10 : Following Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Swami Prasad Maurya's remarks on 'Kar Sevaks', Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nalin Kohli said that his remarks were "condemnable" and "shocking", and comes at a time when the country is enthusiastic and looking forward to the 'Pran Pratishtha' of Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22.
"It is indeed condemnable and shocking to note that for the sake of vote bank politics, some of the Samajwadi Party leaders are giving indications that the 'Kar Sevaks' were shot way back in the 1990s, and that too at a time when the country is enthusiastic and looking forward to the 'Pran Pratishtha' of the magnificent Temple in Ayodhya, when the Prime Minister will be there, and lakhs and crores of people want to be there and crores of people across the world are excited about this," said Kohli.
This comes after Maurya earlier justified the then Mulayam Singh Yadav government's order directing the police to open fire on 'Kar Sevaks' in Ayodhya in 1990, saying that it was done to protect the Constitution.
Earlier today, SP leader Maurya said, "To safeguard the constitution and the law and to protect peace, the then government gave shoot-at-sight orders. The government merely did its duty."
Reacting to the remarks, BJP leader Kohli said, "But day after day, Samajwadi Party leaders are coming up with statements which exposes their entire brand of politics, which is borne by only 'vote bank' compulsions. And perhaps they are even proud of the fact that they shot the 'Karsevaks' and want to politicise the same. The public will give a befitting reply," he added.
