Congress CEC meeting for selection of candidates for Maharashtra Assembly polls underway in Delhi

New Delhi [India], October 25 : The Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting of Congress for the selection of candidates for the Maharashtra Assembly polls is underway at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi on Friday.
In the meeting Delhi Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha LoP and party leader Rahul Gandhi and party General Secretary KC Venugopal, Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole are present.
Congress' in-charges for Maharashtra, Ramesh Chennithala said that the discussions would be held on all the seats.
"Discussions were held on all the seats today. After the meeting, we will publish the second list," Chennithala said.
Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole before the meeting said that Maha Vikas Aghadi is working on merit
"Whatever seats Congress has got we discussed in the screening committee. In the meeting we will put forth everything before the High Command. MVA is working on merit," he said.
Both the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) -- comprising the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress -- have intensified their preparations for the upcoming elections to 288 Assembly seats in the State. The BJP is part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance alongside the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and Ajit Pawar-led NCP.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with counting for all 288 constituencies set for November 23.
In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP won 105 seats, the Shiv Sena 56, and the Congress 44. In 2014, the BJP secured 122 seats, the Shiv Sena 63, and the Congress 42.
