Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 29 : Former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and BJP candidate from Chennai South Lok Sabha constituency in Tamil Nadu, Tamilisai Soundararajan, said on Monday that the Congress had no right to talk about the constitution, as they had crushed democracy during the emergency and dissolved many state governments then.
"PM Narendra Modi's schemes have reached every house in the state. This time we will win more seats in Telangana. We are strengthened by the visit of several leaders and the Prime Minister. They (Congress) are talking about the constitution, but they crushed democracy during the emergency. I am a victim of the emergency. My father and all the journalists and leaders were imprisoned. They conducted the elections only after the court intervened. They dissolved so many state governments," she said.
She further stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has safeguarded the interests of minorities through a 15-point programme.
"We have safeguarded the pride of even Islamic women by abolishing Triple Talaq, and visa formalities have been revised for Haj. The PM had a 15-point programme to safeguard minorities. From 2016 to 2020, the 15-point programme was in place for the development of minorities. All artisans are encouraged to exhibit their products. We have provided skill training to minority students, and employment has been generated for them," she added.
Earlier, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had accused the BJP of planning to change the Constitution and said that the top brass of the BJP, including PM Modi, were conducting surgical strikes on the other backward classes.
Addressing a press conference here, CM Reddy said, "BJP wants to change the Constitution by 2025 and make it as per RSS. They need two-thirds majority for it. The '400 paar' slogan is for this. PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and BJP are doing a surgical strike on SC/ST/BC/OBC."
