Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], October 19 : Former Chief Minister and leader of the Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Assembly Jairam Thakur targeted the state government regarding the special disaster package and alleged that the Congress government is trying to deceive the people of state by including the money from the assistance and schemes approved by the union government in the state's special disaster package.
Thakur further said that the opposition will expose the lies of state government by taking the truth to the public.
Addressing media persons in Shimla on Wednesday Thakur said, "The government announced a special relief package for the disaster in the state. In the package of one thousand Crore MNREGA money was mentioned which comes from the Centre. The Central Government is building 6,500 houses under the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme; the Sukhu government also made it a part of the package. The amount of help received from NDRF and Rs 225 Crore donated by the people to the disaster relief fund were also included in the package. In times of disaster, the government has started a new tradition of misleading people. If the state government is able to provide help to the people, then the Center has a big contribution in it."
"The opposition has tried to help in the disaster by keeping aside politics, but the Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu government is ignoring the cooperation of the Centre, has launched a campaign against the Centre. However, central government is still helping the state," Sukhu added.
He accused the state government of doing favouritism in relief works and said, "The are areas from where Congress did not get votes are being ignored and relief lists are being made at the block level to provide benefits to their own people. This relief should be given to the affected people and not to people of a particular party and there can be no bigger sin than doing such things. Negligent officers who commit such fraud shall not be spared."
Regarding price of cement in the state, Jairam Thakur said that the prices of cement have increased four times in ten months. Congress used to raise hue and cry over the price of cement when it was in opposition, but now the prices are continuously increasing and the government is failing to control it.
