"Congress is enemy of country's civilization": Assam CM Sarma

Guwahati (Assam) [India], March 2 : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday hit out at the Congress, accusing it of being the biggest 'enemy of country's civilization'.
Sarma, while coming down heavily on Congress, which he was earlier associated with, said that the party is 'not only the enemy of development, it is also the biggest enemy of India's civilization'.
"I believe they (Congress) are not only biggest enemy of development, they are the biggest enemy of our civilization. They (Congress) are the biggest enemy of peace, for the development. Because today, India is witnessing a civilizational triumph at that point of time those who opposed India's growth how you can say that they like India. These people are inspired by the ideology of George Soros they want anarchism and the Prime Minister wants development," Sarma said.
He further said that the next general elections are the fight between 'anarchist and those who prefer development'.
"So this election is precisely fight between anarchy and democracy, between the two kind of people who want to see India as a 'Viswa Guru' and another section of people who wants to see India as an inferior state and an under developed state. I think the Prime Minister Modi under his leadership has changed India as transform India completely and the people of India are with him completely," Sarma said.
On being asked about some organizations who have threatened to start another leg of agitation against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the state, the Assam Chief Minister said, "There are two sections of people in the state... Some section of people supports CAA and I am one of them. But at the same time, there are many people who opposed CAA. So we have to accommodate both points of view."
The Assam CM urged people who do not support CAA to take the issue to the Supreme Court.
"We should not criticize anyone for supporting or criticizing CAA. Assam has an act called IMDT which was opposed by a large section of Assamese people. But ultimately that act was got scraped in the Supreme Court, not because of any agitation, but because of judicial intervention. So I personally urge that the people who oppose CAA to take the matter to the Supreme Court and already it is in the Supreme Court, but the case was not listed because rule was not notified. Instead of disturbing peace and tranquility in Assam, people should go to the court and ventilate their grievances," the Assam Chief Minister said.
Earlier, the forum of 16 opposition parties met Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and handed over a memorandum opposing the enforcement of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Assam had witnessed violent protests in 2019 and early 2020 after Parliament passed the CAA, which makes minority communities such as Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan eligible to apply for Indian citizenship. Five people were killed in the protests.
