Rohtak (Haryana) [India], September 11 : As the deadline for nomination for the Haryana Assembly election nears, Haryana LoP and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda is set to file his nomination from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi assembly constituency today.
Former CM Hooda also performed havan at his residence in Rohtak ahead of filing his nomination.
After talks of alliance failed between AAP-Congress for assembly elections, Haryana LoP Hooda said that they tried to form an alliance but possibly AAP did not want to go ahead, and eventually they announced their candidates.
"We tried but they announced their candidates. We tried but maybe they didn't want it...," said Bhupinder Singh Hooda, moments before filing his nomination from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi assembly constituency.
The seat-sharing talks between Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party for the Haryana assembly polls broke down on Monday after the Aam Aadmi Party declared their candidates for various seats. The party has so far declared its candidates for 40 seats in the 90-member Haryana assembly.
Responding to a question on competition faced by other parties, including JJP, INLD, etc., Hooda said, "It was clear in Lok Sabha elections that the competition is only between Congress and BJP and there is no space for vote-cutters." In a veiled attack on JJP, Hooda said, "Last time the public had voted for the vote-cutters, they formed government with the BJP and ruined Haryana for 5 years."
Exuding his confidence, the Congress candidate from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi said that the 36 fraternities of Haryana have decided to form the Congress government in the state.
The Congress candidate from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi assembly constituency said, "People bless us and it is our duty to serve them. Public service is the intent with which my family and I joined politics. People have given me this opportunity, and we will serve them as much as possible. 36 fraternities in Haryana have decided 'abki baar Congress ki sarkar'...BJP is going out and Congress is coming to power..."
Earlier on September 10, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini filed his nomination from the Ladwa constituency for the forthcoming assembly elections in the state.
Voting for the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5, with the last date for filing nominations being September 12. The counting of votes will take place on October 8.
On August 31, the Election Commission of India (ECI) revised the polling date for the Haryana Assembly elections from October 1 to October 5 and moved the counting of votes for both the Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana assemblies from October 4 to October 8.
