Congress, NC alliance will collapse like house of cards: BJP's Tarun Chugh
Aug 23, 2024
New Delhi [India], August 23 : BJP General Secretary and Jammu and Kashmir elections in charge Tarun Chugh today lambasted the new alliance between Congress and National Conference, saying that it will collapse like a house of cards and will face a humiliating defeat in coming elections.
Chugh said this alliance has been rejected by the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Even in the last Lok Sabha elections, while Congress failed to open its account in Jammu and Kashmir, the NC, led by Abdullah's, faced a crushing defeat.
Ridiculing Rahul Gandhi's visit to Srinagar, Chugh said it was more like an ice cream trip to Lal Chowk, where he must have understood the pulse of the people.
"Rahul Gandhi's fun trip is a clear indication of the improved security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. This feat has been achieved under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has brought about a transformative change in the region," said Chugh.
"The BJP's strong presence and popularity in J-K is a testament to PM Modi's leadership and the party's commitment to the region's development," he added.
Chugh further said, "The Congress party's attempt to seek alliances with parties rejected by the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the Lok Sabha elections is a clear indication of their desperation. In contrast, PM Modi's policies have made it possible for Rahul Gandhi to enjoy a peaceful outing in Lal Chowk, a far cry from the tense atmosphere that prevailed in the region earlier."
Ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, the Congress and the National Conference announced a pre-poll alliance and said that seat-sharing talks are currently underway.
The pre-poll alliance was announced soon after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge met NC chief Farooq Abdullah. After the meeting was over, Farooq said that the Congress-NC would fight on all 90 seats in the assembly polls.
The pre-poll alliance was announced following a meeting of Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi with NC patron Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah in Srinagar on Thursday.
The Congress and the NC had fought the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with each other. The National Conference won two seats - Anantnag and Srinagar. The Congress could not win any seat.
Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1. The results will be announced on October 4.
The Election Commission has issued notification for the first phase of assembly seats for 24 seats. This is the first assembly poll in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 .
