"Congress scared and nervous": BJP's Shazia Ilmi on talks of AAP-Congress alliance in Haryana

New Delhi [India], September 9 : Amid the speculations of an AAP-Congress alliance in Haryana for the forthcoming elections, BJP leader Shazia Ilmi on Monday said that the discussion of forming an alliance clearly shows that Congress is scared and nervous and is lacking in confidence. They (Congress) don't trust their candidates and that's why they need a party (AAP) who is their competitor in Punjab.
Responding to a question regarding the possibilities of an AAP-Congress alliance for upcoming assembly elections in Haryana, Ilmi said, "Their arrogance has gone. Now, it is clear that the Congress party which was repeatedly saying that our government will be formed, has become nervous and scared and needs the support of the Aam Aadmi Party. This is a clear proof of their weakness. If they want to contest in alliance, it means Congress is lacking in confidence and don't trust themselves and their candidates and in compulsion, they have to tie with a party who is their competitor in Punjab."
As former Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat joined Congress, Shazia Ilmi said that she is a superstar of the country but the kind of politics she discusses, clearly shows that she speaks only from one side.
Ilmi further said that Phoogat would look more promising if she would have asked Priyanka Gandhi to support RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder victim Abhaya and her parents even though the government in that state is of their allied party.
"Vinesh is our superstar and is the daughter of our country and we all are with her. But the kind of politics she talks about and when she especially thanks Priyanka Gandhi, then it is clear that she is talking from only one side about the tyranny of women and solely she is taking a side. Priyanka Gandhi is silent on what is happening in Kolkata and other parts of the country. Wish Vinesh Phogat would have raised her voice for Abhaya and her parents too. I wish she could ask Priyanka Gandhi about her support despite of the fact that the government in that state is of our ally. She could look more promising and trustable when she would have asked Priyanka Gandhi that why she didn't support Abhaya and her parents in the same way she was supporting wrestler's protest," Ilmi said.
Reacting to Bajrang Punia's remarks on Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, Ilmi said that the Haryana CM would himself decide the seat from which he will contest.
"Nayab Singh Saini will himself decide to contest from which seat. Any other person won't decide his agenda. I think these kinds of statements from the people who just have entered politics and is from wrestling background is not good. It doesn't suit a senior sport star," she said.
Earlier on Sunday, Punia challenged CM Nayab Singh Saini to contest the Haryana Polls from Julana.
"(If defeating Vinesh Phogat is easy) then why is Nayab Singh Saini searching for a safe seat for himself? If he thinks that anyone can defeat Vinesh Phogat, then ask him to contest from Julana... He is welcome to contest from Julana. He is the CM of the state and he can do anything... If the BJP has a problem with the (Congress-AAP) alliance, then why are they in alliance at the centre? They have 240 (seats). They should sit in the opposition... We are moving ahead with the INDIA Alliance parties with strength... If they (the BJP) are against the alliance, then they should also sit in opposition," Punia said.
On September 6, Vinesh Phogat and wrestler Bajrang Punia joined Congress just one month before the Haryana Assembly Elections.
Within hours of joining the party, Phogat was fielded as a party candidate from the Julana Assembly Constituency. Whereas Punia was appointed as the working president of the All India Kisan Congress.
Punia won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, while Vinesh Phogat became the first woman wrestler to reach the Olympics final in Paris last month. The wrestlers resigned from their respective positions in Northern Railways earlier on that day.
The voting for the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5 and the last date for filing nominations is September 12. The counting of votes will be held on October 8.
