Nov 30, 2023
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], November 30 : After the exit poll projection showed Congress leading the race to form government in Telangana, state Congress president Revanth Reddy asserted that the grand old party is going to get a landslide victory this time, and today's exit polls showed the same thing.
Exit polls on Thursday predicted that Congress is poised to form government in Telangana and that the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) would fall short of the majority mark after 10-year rule in India's youngest state.
"Congress is going to get landslide victory this time and the same thing is reflected in the exit polls. We are going to get over 80 seats...There is a screening committee, a selection committee and then the CWC has to take a call (for CM). In Congress, there is a process for everything. Being the PCC president, I will have to obey every order from the high command," Reddy told ANI on Thursday.
He further said that this election was not Congress vs BRS but 4 crore people were against BRS.
"This is the victory of the people of Telangana...We will get the approval of the six guarantees and will make it an act in the first cabinet itself," he added.
Exit poll results revealed after the Telangana Assembly election concluded on Thursday predicted a Congress victory in the state.
India TV-CNX predicted 63-79 seats for the Congress, 31-47 for the BRS and two to four for the BJP.
The P-Marq poll gave 58-71 to the Congress and 37-51 to the BRS.
According to Jan ki Baat, Congress is poised to win 48 to 64 seats in Telangana. It said BRS could win 40 to 55 seats and BJP 7 to 13 seats.
Telangana recorded an overall voter turnout of 70.28 per cent in the assembly polls.
Earlier today, tensions also prevailed at Perukawada polling station in Warangal.
Meanwhile, Joint CP (CAR hqrs) talking to ANI said, the polling held in Hyderabad's old city was peaceful and people supported the police and first-time voters have turned up here.
The counting of the votes will take place on December 3 along with four other states.
The high-stakes battle in Telangana witnessed a largely triangular contest involving the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress.
A total of 2,290 contestants were in the fray. In 2018, BRS (then Telangana Rashtra Samithi) won 88 of the 119 seats and had 47.4 per cent of the vote share. The Congress came a distant second with just 19 seats.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao sought a record third term in office in the polls as Congress gained momentum in its campaign in the past few months with the BJP also talking of the "misrule and corruption" of the ruling Bharatiya Rasthra Samithi.
The Congress chief in the state Anumula Revanth Reddy, 54, was seen as a leader who too on KCR as the party tried to gain from the perceived anti-incumbency against ruling party MLAs.
