"Continuing tradition of Congress...": BJP demands Siddaramaiah's resignation following HC verdict

Sep 24, 2024

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], September 24 : Demanding resignation of Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Tuesday lashed out at the Congress party and said that Siddaramaiah is continuing tradition of the Congress party (under Rahul Gandhi) of enriching themselves and the family after coming into government by making fake promises.
This development came after Karnataka High Court dismissed CM Siddaramaiah's plea challenging Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot order of prosecution against him in the alleged MUDA Scam.
"Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah is continuing a tradition of the Congress party under Rahul Gandhi of coming into governance in the name of poor, making fake promises but always at the end of day enriching themselves and the family. BJP demands the resignation of Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah to make way for a free and independent investigation into the allegations of corruption. We also go on to say and make this with all responsibility that there is not even a single Congress leader in Karnataka who is not involved in one land scam or another," Chandrasekhar said.
Chandrasekhar demanded the resignation of CM Siddaramaiah saying that it will allow for a "fair independent investigation into these allegations of the corruption."
He said, "The MUDA case is a very shameful example of how a sitting CM has misused his office to enrich himself and his family. The HC judgement today, paved the way for the investigation into this alleged crime, alleged corruption scam and therefore we call upon Siddaramaiah to resign forthwith and allow for a fair independent investigation into these allegations of the corruption," said Rajeev Chandrasekhar while addressing a press conference."
Stepping up his attacks on Congress and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, the BJP leader said that Congress got opportunity to serve the government by making "fake promises". Taking it further, he said that the objective of Congress' government, under Rahul Gandhi is only to do "corruption."
"Karnataka after 2023 elections, Rahul Gandhi's congress got the opportunity to serve the government after many-many promises, and it was their first round of politics of fake promises. You are aware that Karnataka economy is in deep trouble. They have themselves said there is no money for development, law and order is all time low. Many of these so called impact of Congress governance has been played out for several of month now and everybody is aware. I want to draw your attention to the main reasons that Congress governments under Rahul Gandhi come to government. What is the objective? Why do they make fake promises? Why are they repeatedly embarrassed and exposed for non-delivery of these promises and why do they continue to insist to make these fake promises in another state election, to get to government, and the answer is corruption," said Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Referring to the Karnataka High Court order, he further said, "Today, the Karnataka HC has rejected the plea of the sitting CM Siddaramaiah to stay the issued order given by the Governor of Karnataka against him and his family in MUDA scam. It was when the governor sanctioned the prosecution, there was lot of flurry of activities and he went to the court to get it stayed the order. So, now the reality has come out to the people of Karnataka and the country, which is the HC has effectively validated the actions of the Governor. This leaves of course many question but the primary question is corruption. Since the Siddaramaiah has been CM, there have been many-many instance when the public money has been looted, whether Valmiki Development Corporation, how AICC President has awarded themselves land."
Meanwhile, responding to the Karnataka High Court's verdict dismissing his petition in the challenging Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's approval on conducting an investigation in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah alleged that it is just a political ploy by the BJP and JDS to undermine his government's pro-poor initiatives.
"BJP and JDS have resorted to political retaliation against me because I am pro-poor and fighting for social justice. This is a fight against the revenge politics of Narendra Modi-led BJP government".
"Throughout my 40 years of political life, I have faced such revenge and conspiracy politics and have been winning with the strength of the blessings and wishes of the people of the state. I am confident that I will win this fight with the strength of people's blessings," Siddaramaiah said in an official statement.
The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's petition challenging the approval given by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot for conducting investigation against him in the alleged illegalities in Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) allotting sites to his wife.
In his judgment the single judge bench of Justice Nagaprasanna said that the order of sanction for prosecution does not suffer from non-application of mind by the Governor.
It is alleged that MUDA illegally allotted 14 sites to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife in the prime location of Mysuru city. The High Court, in its interim order passed on August 19, had granted a temporary relief to Siddaramaiah by directing a special court in Bengaluru to defer further proceedings and not to take any precipitative action pursuant to the sanction granted by the Governor.
