New Delhi [India], July 24 : The Communist Party of India's leader, Annie Raja, spoke on the Union Budget and the protest by the opposition parties on Wednesday.
Speaking to ANI, Raja said that the budget was made to save the government from failing. The budget allocation to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar was also done in the same manner. Further, she added that the issue of floods was being faced by other states also but no allocations were made.
"Whatever the government says, the budget was really to save this government. That is how the budgetary allocation has been made to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. The same issues of floods or backwardness are being faced by other states also, so why was no allocation made to other states?", she said.
Further, she added that there were no proper allocations given to the social sector. Although Rs. 3 lakh crores were allocated for women and child development, there were not substantial increments in the allocation considering the issues women face in society. She further added that this was the reason the opposition was against the budget.
"There is no allocation for the social sector. Even for women and child development, it is Rs 3 lakh crore, including the gender budget. There is not a substantial increment in that allocation. Considering the issues women face in society, this allocation is not enough. This is the reason why the opposition is against the budget, " she said.
The opposition INDIA bloc MPs held a protest in the Parliament complex on Wednesday, against the Union Budget, presented on Tuesday by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
"Opposition virodhi kursi bachao Budget murda baad" slogans were raised by the INDIA bloc leaders as they protested holding placards in the Parliament building, claiming that the Budget is "discriminatory" in nature.
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, party General Secretary KC Venugopal, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and TMC MP Dola Sen were seen participating in the protest.
