CPI(M) MP Bhattacharya: Akhil Giri should have been sacked for abusing woman forest ranger

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 4 : Reacting to West Bengal Minister Akhil Giri's resignation on Sunday over threatening a woman forest ranger, CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya stated that Akhil Giri should have been sacked rather than given credit for resigning.
Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya said, "Akhil Giri should have been sacked. What he has done is illegal and in violation of the law. Akhil Giri should have been arrested by the police because he has committed a cognizable offence. In the presence of police officials, he prevented government employees on duty from discharging their duties and abused her."
He further mentioned that the police should have arrested Giri immediately.
"The Chief Minister should have sacked him. Instead of sacking him, giving him credit for resigning is also in a way supporting Akhil Giri's uncivilized behaviour. He resigned because of public uproar. CM Mamata Banerjee has insulted the Prime Minister in the past, and Akhil Giri is following in the footsteps of his leader," he added.
Giri, who quit under party pressure, refused to apologize to the official he abused.
Earlier in 2022, the TMC leader sparked controversy with his derogatory remark against President Droupadi Murmu.
"He (Suvendu Adhikari) says I am not good-looking. How beautiful you are! We don't judge anyone by their appearance; we respect the office of the President of India. But how does our President look?" Giri had said.
