South 24 Parganas (West Bengal) [India], October 30 : Bharatiya Janata Party leader Agnimitra Paul lashed out at the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government over the law and order situation in the state after a minor girl was allegedly molested by an ambulance driver in South 24 Parganas.
Labelling the TMC government as a "criminally run government," Paul claimed that criminals have become the "election machinery" in the state.
Coming down heavily over the incident, Paul said, "A 14-year-old girl bitten by a snake was brought to primary health care centre. An ambulance driver molested her - in her bed in the hospital and was asking for her number. How is this possible in a female ward and that too in front of police who have been there after the Supreme Court's order?"
She further alleged that the police didn't write the victim's complaint properly and omitted adequate details of the incident, making it insufficient from POCSO standards.
"It didn't end there - when the family went to file a complaint at the Dhola police station - they wrote the complaint but did not provide the proper details. They did not mention adequate details about the incident making the case insufficient to POCSO standards. It cannot be invoked in this case. It was the same police station where a Muslim boy was beaten to death by police a few days back," Paul asserted.
"Criminals are running the Mamata Banerjee-led government in West Bengal. The criminals who commit murders, rape women, these criminals are running the government here. These criminals have become the election machinery here and that is why Mamata Banerjee supports all the criminals in every case here," she added.
The BJP leader also attacked Mamata Banerjee's 'Maa Mati Manush' slogan, and called her "anti-woman."
"Mamata Banerjee claims she is a 'Ma Mati Manush' government but she is an anti-woman government. We will take the case to the High Court through BJP's advocate team," Paul said.
The latest incident comes months after the RG Kar case shook the state as well as the whole country. The incident, where a trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, sparked massive protests and strikes, including by the medical fraternity.
BJP strongly attacked the Mamata government over the case, carried out massive protests and demanded her resignation.
