CWG 2022: Mixed TT duos of Sreeja Akula-Achanta Sharath Kamal, Manika Batra-Sathiya Gnanasekaran qualify for QFs

Birmingham [UK], August 5 : The eighth day of India's Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham started on a positive note as the table tennis mixed doubles duos of Sreeja Akula and Achanta Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran qualified for the quarterfinal after registering wins in their round of 16 matches on Friday.
Akula and Kamal defeated the Malaysian duo of Ho Ying and Leong Cheng Feng by 3-1. The Indian duo won the match by 5-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-5.
Akula and Kamal were not off to a good start as they lost the first game badly. However, they bounced back and defeated their opponents in their next three games to book their quarterfinal slot.
On the other hand, the mixed doubles duo of Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran defeated the Nigerian team consisting of Ajoke Ojomu and Olajide Omotayo by 3-0.
Batra-Gnanasekaran were extremely dominant in the match and qualified to the quarters within three games by 11-7, 11-6, 11-7.
India has one medal in the discipline so far.
Indian men's table tennis team clinched the gold medal defeating Singapore 3-1 in the final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Tuesday.
