Cyclone Remal: Mizoram government orders closure of government offices, schools, banks

Aizwal (Mizoram) [India], May 28 : The Mizoram government has ordered the closure of all schools, banks, financial institutions, public sector undertakings and government offices except those rendering essential services on May 28 in view of the inclement weather and the warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on "Cyclone Remal."
However, the employees are mandated to work from home and be available in case of any exigencies.
The government also advised private sector offices to adopt 'work from home' mode as far as possible.
In a press release, K. Lalthawmmawia, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, ordered the closure of all government offices on Tuesday, with the exception of offices rendering essential services such as disaster management and rehabilitation, district administration, health and family welfare, Mizoram police, power and electricity, public health engineering, etc.
The State Government directed Secretaries and Heads of Departments to ensure officers and staff of their respective department shall work from home and be available in case of any requirements.
Cyclonic storm Remal made its landfall in Bangladesh's coastal area on Sunday night and around 10 people were killed in Bangladesh.
The cyclone 'Remal' has moved nearly northward with a speed of 15 kmph over Coastal Bangladesh and adjoining Coastal West Bengal. According to the Kolkata Police, many areas of the city have been hard-hit by the severe cyclonic storm.
The severe cyclonic storm 'Remal' weakened since making landfall last night and is expected to downgrade into a deep depression by the evening, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) announced on Monday.
