Deeply value efforts you made to strengthen India-UK ties: Rahul Gandhi in message to Rishi Sunak

New Delhi [India], July 6 : Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, expressed his commiserations on the defeat of the Rishi Sunak-led Conservative party in the UK general elections.
He stated that victories and setbacks are both "inevitable parts" of the journey in a democracy.
"I would like to extend my commiserations on the recent electoral outcome. Victories and setbacks are both an inevitable part of the journey in a democracy, and we must take both in our stride," Rahul Gandhi said in a statement.
The Congress leader also praised Sunak's public service and commitment to people and his efforts in strengthening India-UK ties.
He also affirmed confidence that he will continue to contribute to public life and wished him best for his future endeavours.
"Your dedication to public service and commitment to your people are commendable. I also deeply value the efforts you made to strengthen the ties between India and the UK during your term in office. I am confident you will continue to contribute to public life with your experience," the statement added.
He added, "I wish you all the best for your future endeavours."
Labour Party won a huge mandate in the UK elections and has come to power after 14 years of Conservative rule.
Starmer, a former barrister who entered Parliament in 2015, assumed Labour leadership in 2020.
In his first speech outside 10, Downing Street, Starmer promised to serve all citizens, regardless of who they voted for and assured that the process of change would start immediately to "rebuild Britain."
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with UK counterpart Starmer on phone and congratulated him on being elected as the UK Prime Minister.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The Prime Minister extended invitation to Starmer for an early visit to India. The two leaders agreed to work towards early conclusion of a mutually beneficial India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
PM Modi had earlier lauded former PM Rishi Sunak's contribution to fostering ties between India and United Kingdom.
"Thank you @RishiSunak for your admirable leadership of the UK, and your active contribution to deepen the ties between India and the UK during your term in office. Best wishes to you and your family for the future," PM Modi posted on X.
