Delhi BJP demands resignation of Delhi Mayor Oberoi, says "work is currently at standstill"

New Delhi [India], July 20 : Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor has demanded the resignation of Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi, saying that it is regretful that due to the political obstinacy of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the very essential functioning of the corporation has now reached a standstill.
Due to the Chief Minister's fear of losing the municipal standing committee elections, the constitutional standing committee, ward committees, and other committees of the Delhi Municipal Corporation have not been formed for 19 months, he said.
Kapoor has stated that due to this political obstinacy, many public-interest works through the municipal corporation are at a standstill because their tenders and administrative approvals are not being processed.
"While most of the work currently at a standstill does not have a direct impact on the daily lives of Delhi residents, in the coming days, the streets in the central area of the municipal corporation will stop getting cleaned, and by mid-August, the essential bio-mining work for waste disposal at Delhi's three landfill sites will also cease," he said.
The BJP spokesperson said that due to Kejriwal's political obstinacy, from July 25, the entire central and new Delhi area from Daryaganj to Badarpur and from Lodhi Road to South Ext will turn into a garbage dump as the contractor for the central zone's waste collection will stop working because the extended contract will end on that day.
"Imagine that from July 25, areas like Bharat Mandapam Pragati Maidan, Sundar Nagar, Nizamuddin, Lajpat Nagar, Defence Colony, South Ex, Friends Colony, Sarita Vihar, as well as Daryaganj, Badarpur, Sangam Vihar, Govindpuri, Okhla, etc. will be littered with garbage everywhere," said the Delhi BJP spokesperson.
"Similarly, from mid-August, the contract for the bio-mining work at Delhi's three landfill sites will also end, and waste disposal will stop there too," he added.
The Delhi BJP spokesperson asserted that Shelly Oberoi, who is holding the position illegally, has no moral right to remain in office.
"Legally, the central area's waste disposal contract cannot be extended further, and now the only solution is that Dr Oberoi should either get special funds from the Kejriwal government to make an advance payment to the contractor or resign," he added.
