New Delhi [India], January 20 : Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva and party MP Yogender Chandoliya visited the JJ Cluster area of Bawana town , to showcase the alleged disrepair and the "grim state" of the government flats in the area.
The BJP leaders also live-streamed the state of the flats, and strongly criticised the AAP-led government for "wasting public money."
Addressing the media, Virendraa Sachdeva said, "Today, we inspected the dilapidated flats, which are a consequence of Kejriwal's obstinacy and political rivalry, thereby exposing his double standards."
While Sachdeva was there in Bawana for his visit, he told ANI that there were manholes kept open in the area.
"Manholes are open 25-30 feet. If someone falls in them, no one will survive. There are more than 50,000 flats here and more than 60% of the central government's money is invested in them. These could have been given to the poor, labourers and sanitation workers, but Arvind Kejriwal deliberately kept obstructing this," he told ANI.
He further questioned the promise of Kejriwal to give free houses to poor people.
"Today when the elections are near, he is saying that he will give houses to the poor. Here the flats are lying built, if you give up your stubbornness, PM Modi is ready to repair these flats and give them to the poor, but due to Kejriwal's stubbornness, the poor are forced to sleep on the streets," Sachdeva added.
Sachdeva accused the Delhi government of squandering public funds, pointing to these ruined government flats as glaring evidence.
They highlighted that the flats' walls have collapsed due to a lack of maintenance and the premises are covered with dense overgrowth of wild plants and weeds.
He claimed that 50,000 flats were left to deteriorate solely because Arvind Kejriwal insisted on renaming the flats after himself and sought personal credit for the Central Government's project.
"The Central Government allocated around Rs12,000 crores for constructing these flats for sanitation workers and the poor. However, even after being elected as Chief Minister thrice, Kejriwal has neglected their allocation and instead made hollow promises of new flats," Sachdeva attacked Kejriwal, according to the statement.
Contrasting it to a central government scheme, he said that "Swabhimaan Apartments" were gifted to Delhi's underprivileged by the Central Government, while the other apartments were left in bad condition after the Delhi government ignored a departmental request for Rs 250 for renovations.
MP Chandola also hit out at AAP-led government, saying "Arvind Kejriwal did not deliver on what he promised and only acted in ways that were detrimental during his tenure."
