Delhi Police busts 2 fake spice manufacturing units in Karawal Nagar area, 3 held

New Delhi [India], May 5 : The Crime Branch of Delhi police on Sunday arrested three people for operating two fake spice manufacturing units and recovered 15 tonnes of adulterated Indian spices and raw materials in the city's Karawal Nagar area.
The three accused have been identified as Dilip Singh alias Bunty, Khursheed Malik and Sarfaraz.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch received information that some manufacturers and shopkeepers in North East Delhi were involved in manufacturing, and selling adulterated Indian Spices in Delhi-NCR, in the name of various brands.
Hence, Crime Branch, in Delhi was directed to nab the manufacturer and suppliers of adulterated spices.
Accordingly, a team was deployed to develop the information in this regard on May 1 and raids were conducted on two manufacturing units running in the Karawal Nagar area.
Based on this information the first raid was conducted in one of the areas in Karawal Nagar where one Dilip Singh alias Bunty and Khursheed Malik were found operating the unit.
According to police, it was found that Dilip Singh was operating the processing unit and making adulterated turmeric by using non-edible banned items, acids, and oils in huge quantities.
Upon seeing the police, both accused tried to flee away but they were overpowered after which both were interrogated.
During interrogation, it was discovered that the manufacturing unit was owned by the accused Dilip Singh, while Khursheed Malik supplied the adulterated spices manufactured there.
Adulterated spices including Haldi powder, Garam Masala powder, Amchoor powder and other raw items such as rotten rice, rotten coconuts, Eucalyptus leaves, rotten berries, wood dust, citric acid, choker, dry chilli heads, colour chemicals were found in the manufacturing unit during the inspection.
The raw materials used in the unit were not edible, therefore the Department of Food and Safety, who came on the spot and inspected the manufacturing unit took several samples of recovered adulterated Haldi, Gram Masala, Amchoor, Dhaniya Powder etc.
It was also found during interrogation that another processing unit of the same kind was being run at Kali Khata Road, Karawal Nagar, Delhi.
Hence, raids were conducted and another person, Sarfaraz was apprehended for his involvement in making adulterated spices.
Department of Food and Safety who were present on the spot inspected the Unit and took several samples here of recovered adulterated spurious spices.
Both unit owners were found cheating the general public and also playing with their lives by manufacturing these adulterated and dangerous non-edible essential spices. 7,100 kg of adulterated Indian Spices were seized from the abovementioned raids.
Additionally, 2 manufacturing units (big size), machines, tempo and other instruments and articles.
A total of 15 tones of adulterated Indian spices and raw materials (which were made with non-edible items, banned items, untidy, chemicals, acids etc.) were recovered.
Hence, a case under appropriate sections of law was registered at the Crime Branch, Delhi and all three accused persons were arrested in the case.
The case revealed that Dilip Singh along with his friend had installed the processing unit in a bid to earn extra money.
He used to make adulterated spices by using untidy materials and sell them in different markets of Sadar Bazar, Khari Bawli, Pul Mithai and to the vendors of the weekly bazaar.
