New Delhi [India], May 19 : Amid a political drama over the alleged assault of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, party leader and Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Sunday accused Delhi Police of planting fake news to create an election narrative for the Bharatiya Janata Party.
"I believe an investigation agency should be impartial. The way the Delhi Police has been planting fake news from day one, it is clear that it is working to create an election narrative for the BJP. The CCTV cameras installed to check entry and exit inside the security area are under PWD and Delhi Police took all the CCTV footage yesterday and today Delhi Police has also taken the CCTV footage from inside the Chief Minister's residence, nothing has been deleted or tampered with. Delhi Police is working at the behest of BJP. What is written in the diary is confidential but Delhi Police distributed it to tarnish the image of AAP," Bharadwaj said.
Delhi Police on Sunday detained some people who were protesting against the ruling party in the national capital.
The people, sporting black topis inscribed with the words 'Aajan Aadmi Party', were rounded up and dragged into police vehicles.
The AAP, earlier on Friday, declared a 'Jail Bharo' march to the BJP headquarters in the national capital to protest what they claimed to be arbitrary arrests of its leader at the behest of the Centre.
Earlier, on Saturday, Bibhav was arrested by Delhi Police for the alleged assault on Swati Maliwal.
After his arrest, Bibhav was produced before Delhi's Tis Hazari Court, which remanded her in police custody for five days.
Bibhav lodged a counter-complaint with the police on Friday, accusing Maliwal of gaining 'unauthorised entry' into the CM's Civil Lines residence and 'verbally abusing' him.
In his complaint, Kejriwal's former PA charged Maliwal with unauthorised entry, verbal abuse, and threats while also claiming the BJP's involvement in the matter.
Maliwal, in her complaint, alleged that Bibhav "slapped" her "at least seven to eight times" while she "continued screaming" and "brutally dragged" her while "kicking" her in her "chest, stomach and pelvis area."
