Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 13 : The Tamil Nadu vigilance department has filed a case against former AIADMK MLA B Sathyanarayanan for alleged possession of assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
The state Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) registered a case against former AIADMK MLA from T Nagar Assembly constituency under the Prevention of Corruption Act for amassing wealth to the tune of Rs 2.64 crore.
On Wednesday simultaneous searches were held in 18 premises linked to him, including 16 in Chennai and one each in Tiruvallur and in Coimbatore.
"A Vigilance Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption was registered against TB Sathyanarayanan, from Thiyagaraya Nagar Constituency, Tamil Nadu, during the period from 2016 to 2021 for possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income for the period from 2016 to 2021 by Sathyanarayanan and his family members," says the FIR registered against him.
It is alleged that AIADMK leader Sathyanarayanan was involved in multiple businesses including real estate and construction work.
It is also alleged that the AIADMK MLA allegedly purchased properties at different locations in the name of his family members, including his wife S Jayachithra and daughter Selvi S Kavitha.
Visuals showed a team of the DVAC at Sathyanarayanan’s Vadapalani residence, where his supporters gathered in large numbers forcing police personnel to clear the crowd.
Supporters of the MLA have claimed "political vendetta" behind the raid.
In 2021, raids were conducted Anti-Corruption Bureau against AIADMK MLA KPP Baskar and his wife Uma for allegedly accumulating assets worth nearly Rs 5 crore. Basakar was the AIADMK MLA from Namakkal for two consecutive terms, from 2011 to 2021.
Notably, Tamil Nadu has witnessed some of the most high-profile cases, including the disproportionate wealth case against former chief minister J Jayalalithaa and her close aid VK Sasikala.
