DMK MP meets Law Minister, demands establishment of permanent regional benches of Supreme Court

New Delhi [India], July 4 : Senior advocate and DMK MP P Wilson on Thursday met with Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal to discuss several demands including the establishment of Regional Supreme Court Benches, increasing judges' retirement age, etc.
Wilson, stated on social media that he met with the law minister with the demand of the establishment of permanent regional benches of the Supreme Court in Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and for the South, North, West, and East Zones, apart from a Constitution Bench at Delhi.

Wilson stated in his post that the law minister had received his representation with an assurance to look into the matter. Wilson further added, "I always believe that persistent efforts will never fail."
Wilson stated that he demanded a representative judiciary, ensuring social justice and social diversity in the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court of India and High Courts.
P Wilson also requested to increase the retirement age from 62 years to 65 years for High Court judges and from 65 years to 70 years for Supreme Court judges by bringing constitutional amendments.
He also demanded that the Law Minister notify appointments of withheld or overlooked names recommended by the Supreme Court collegium for the appointment of judges of various high courts and place them in the seniority position as recommended by the Hon'ble Supreme Court.
Last week, P Wilson met with Meghwal at Parliament and presented a representation to stop the implementation of the Three Criminal Laws.
