Washington [US], December 6 : The festive season is about to get a whole lot more exciting for 'Doctor Who' fans, as the highly anticipated Christmas special, 'Joy to the World', gears up for its December 25 premiere.
The first trailer for the episode, which dropped recently, offers a glimpse of the thrilling adventure that lies ahead, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Nicola Coughlan as the character Joy.

In the special trailer, set in 2024, Joy checks into a hotel in London only to stumble upon a secret portal that leads her to the mysterious Time Hotel.
Upon entering, she encounters danger, dinosaurs, and the Doctor himself. But as the holiday season approaches, a deadly plot unfolds across Earth, threatening Christmas for everyone.
The tagline of the episode sets the stage for the action: "When Joy checks into a London hotel in 2024, she opens a secret doorway to the Time Hotel -- discovering danger, dinosaurs, and the Doctor. But a deadly plan is unfolding across the Earth, just in time for Christmas," as per Deadline.
Alongside Gatwa and Coughlan, 'Joy to the World' features an ensemble cast, including Steph de Whalley as Anita, Jonathan Aris as Melnak, Joel Fry as Trev, Peter Benedict as Basil, Julia Watson as Hilda, and Niamh Marie Smith as Sylvia.
Fans can also expect familiar faces behind the scenes, as 'Doctor Who' veteran Steven Moffat serves as executive producer and writer, with Alex Sanjiv Pillai (known for his work on 'Bridgerton' and 'Riverdale') directing the episode.
Russell T Davies, returning as the showrunner, will also serve as an executive producer, joined by Joel Collins, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter.
This Christmas episode follows the success of previous specials, including the 60th-anniversary specials, and is set to lead into the second season of Doctor Who under the new Disney-BBC collaboration.
