Guwahati (Assam) [India], December 5 : Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly, Numal Momin slammed the Congress party accusing them of "hypocrisy" on the Adani issue, and said while the party takes benefits of the conglomerate in several states, they are protesting against the business tycoon in the Parliament.
The Deputy Speaker highlighted the investments of the Adani Group in opposition-ruled states and termed it a "double standard" of the Congress party.
"Constitution was disobeyed by Congress in 1975 during the emergency and now they are talking about the protection of the Constitution. This is just a drama of Rahul Gandhi. Congress lost three times consecutively and they will also lose in 2029, if they continue like this. BJP is doing very well, this indicates that people reject Congress wherever they are existing. If they mislead the people, people will not accept it," Numal Momin told ANI.
"They blame the BJP for hobnobbing with Adani. But if you can see in the past history they also had a good relationship with Adani, Ambani. A few days back Kerala Congress Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had an understanding with Adani and the group invested 10,000 crore in Kerala. They are taking benefit from Adani and in the Parliament they are against Adani. This is the double standard of Congress," he added.
He also congratulated Devendra Fadnavis on taking oath as Maharashtra Chief Minister and hailed the huge win of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the recent assembly polls.
"I wish to congratulate Devendra Fadnavis for becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for the second time. This is a big win for NDA. In the last election also BJP Shiv Sena got a majority but Shiv Sena betrayed and formed an alliance with Congress. People have rejected them. Just in the way Devendra Fadnavis worked in the last time he will do it this time," he said.
Congress on Thursday demanded to constitute the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into allegations pertaining to Adani executives in the United States in an alleged bribery case.
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi attacked the Centre over the issue of US prosecutors linking Gautam Adani to an alleged bribery case.
"Modi ji can't get Adani ji investigated because if he does that, he would be getting himself investigated...Modi aur Adani ek hain. Do nahi hain, ek hain," said Rahul Gandhi as he joined Opposition MPs in protest over the Adani matter.
Parliament proceedings have been stalled since the beginning of the Winter Session amid protests by opposition parties over the Adani issue and violence in Manipur and Sambhal.
The first session of the winter Parliament commenced on November 25, with both Houses getting adjourned fairly early due to disruptions. The winter session will go on till December 20.
Notably, the Adani Group has denied the allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission against the directors of Adani Green.
