Drinking water, infra facilities in DU Law Faculty: Delhi HC directs all stakeholders to convey meeting, appoints Amicus Curiae

New Delhi [India], June 13 : The Delhi High Court has sought a response from the Secretary, Bar Council of India (BCI) and Dean Student's Welfare, Delhi University and others on a plea seeking direction to Delhi University to provide clean and safe drinking water and as well as the other infrastructural facilities including the availability of Wi-Fi services.
The bench of Justice Amit Sharma in an order passed on June 12, 2024, said the notice be issued to the Secretary, Bar Council of India and Dean of Student's Welfare, Delhi University, through all permissible modes.
Meanwhile, the Court has also appointed advocate Rajesh Mishra as Amicus Curiae in the matter.
The court further directed that it is imperative that a meeting be convened amongst all the stakeholders, i.e., Dean Student's Welfare, Delhi University, Dean Faculty of Law, Petitioner and the amicus curiae appointed by this Court with regard to assessing the facilities provided to the students with regard to the water coolers /provision for purified drinking water as well as the other infrastructural facilities including the availability of Wi-Fi services.
"Let the meeting be convened with the mutual convenience of the parties within 01 week and Counsel appearing on behalf of respondents shall coordinate the same with the aforesaid stakeholders and a report with regard to the same be placed on record before the next date of hearing. List on 04.07.2024, before the Roster Bench," it added.
Court direction came while hearing a plea moved by three students studying in the faculty of law namely Ronak Khatri, Umesh Kumar and Ankur Singh Mavi.
However it was informed by the counsel for the respondent and on instructions, submitted that the necessary provisions with regard to water cooler/drinking water are in existence.
