e-Pass mandatory for outsiders entering Nilgiris district from May 7
May 05, 2024
Nilgiris (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 5 : In a bid to ensure stricter monitoring and control over incoming travellers, the Nilgiris district administration has announced the mandatory implementation of e-passes for outsiders entering the district.
This decision comes following an order from the Madras High Court, effective from May 7, 2024.
Speaking to ANI, District Collector Aruna emphasized that an e-pass will be obligatory for individuals hailing from outside the state or district who intend to visit Nilgiris. The E-pass, accessible through an online application, will serve as a crucial document for entry into the district.
"With respect to the regulatory order given by the High Court over the number of tourists visiting the Nilgiris, we have created a software where the user has to give basic details, their name, address, where they are going to stay, their vehicle type and enter all this data and an e-pass will be formed which will have a QR code that will be scanned our team," District Collector Aruna told ANI.
She also said that people coming from foreign countries can register their e-mail addresses and domestic people can register their cell phone numbers and receive e-mail. She said that 100 people will be engaged in this E-Pass operation at all the checkpoints entering the Nilgiri district.
Notably, individuals travelling via government buses are exempt from the e-pass requirement, however, all other incoming vehicles must adhere to the new regulation.
The initiative will undergo a trial run from May 7 to May 30, allowing authorities to assess its efficacy and address any operational challenges.
