"EC will hold fair, peaceful elections": Union Minister Annapurna Devi

New Delhi [India], October 15 : Union Minister Annapurna Devi on Tuesday reiterated that the Election Commission will hold "very fair and peaceful" elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra.

Speaking to ANI on Jharkhand & Maharashtra Assembly elections, Union Minister Annapurna Devi said, " "First of all, I congratulate the Election Commission that they are holding elections in Jharkhand in 2 phases. Before this, Elections used to be held there longer - in 5 phases. We have seen how peaceful elections were held in Haryana and J-K. So, the Election Commission will definitely hold very fair and peaceful elections."
The senior BJP leader also targeted the Jharkhand government and called it "corrupt."
She added, "The Bharatiya Janata Party is always ready for elections. Our workers go ahead with 'Nation First' and work with dedication to the nation...Jharkhand Government is very corrupt. There is anti-government atmosphere in the state. People want this government to go away..."
Jharkhand is set to vote in two phases in assembly polls to be held on November 13 and 20 while Maharashtra will go in for a single-phase election on November 20, the Election Commission announced on Tuesday.
Votes will be counted in the two states on November 23.
The Chief Election Commissioner also announced the dates for bypolls to 48 assembly and two Lok Sabha seats.
Bye-elections to 47 assembly constituencies and one parliamentary constituency, Wayanad, in Kerala will be held on November 13. Bypolls to one assembly constituency in Uttarakhand as also to Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra will be held on November 20.
Votes will be counted for all the seats on November 23.
The results of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana were declared earlier this month.
