Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 10 : Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and MP Sanjay Raut said that efforts to save the accused in the Worli hit-and-run case had started from day one. Raut was speaking after the arrest of the main accused Mihir Shah whose father was associated with the Palghar unit of the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena.
Speaking to ANI, Sanjay Raut said, "Efforts are being made by the government to save the accused. This is not an ordinary case of hit-and-run; it is a similar case to what happened in Pune."
Sanjay Raut demanded that the police check the criminal record of accused Mihir's father, Rajesh Shah, who is also a leader in the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena. He further claimed that Rajesh Shah was also related to the underworld gang and also questioned how he became a special man for the Chief Minister.
"You can check the criminal records of the father of the accused... The Mumbai Police will now have to investigate his association with an underworld gang and how is he able to afford his properties and such fancy cars. How did he become a close aide to the CM? Also needs to be exposed," he said.
Sanjay Raut has also demanded the Commissioner of Mumbai Police bring before the people the records of the father of the accused, who was arrested in this case.
He further said that the accused was under the influence of drugs, and to avoid it coming into the medical records, he was hidden for three days.
"The accused was under the influence of drugs, and to avoid this from coming into his medical records, he was hidden somewhere for three days," Raut said.
Sanjay Raut also raised questions on the handling of the case by the Mumbai Police. He further stated that these people who have repeatedly crushed an innocent woman while intoxicated should never be released from jail and if anyone tries to release them, the people should ask the police for answers.
"The way an innocent woman was crushed to death by him while intoxicated is inhuman. Such people should not be released from jail....," Raut said.
On July 7, Mihir Shah (23), the son of political leader Rajesh Shah, allegedly hit a bike on Dr Annie Besant Road in Worli, which resulted in the death of 45-year-old woman Kaveri Nakhwa.
Mihir Shah was arrested in Virar on Tuesday. The police have also arrested Rajrishi Singh Bidawat and Mihir's father, Rajesh Shah, for their alleged involvement in the case.
