Election commission should take strict action: Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on attack on BJP worker

North 24 Parganas (West Bengal) [India], May 23 : After a BJP worker was killed in an attack by miscreants in Nandigram, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday demanded that the Election Commission take strict action in the matter.
Reportedly a BJP worker died in an attack by miscreants on a few houses on Wednesday in Nandigram. Local BJP workers claim that the assault was perpetrated by TMC members.
The Congress MP further stated that If bloodshed is occurring in the presence of the Election Commission and central security forces, then what would happen in their absence?
He alleged that the law and order have been poor in Bengal since the day the TMC formed the government.
"The Election Commission should take strict action. If, in the presence of the Election Commission and central security forces, there is bloodshed, then what would happen in their absence?... The law and order is poor in Bengal since the day the TMC formed the government... The government of Bengal does not want people to participate in the elections," Chowdhury told ANI.
Earlier in the day villagers in Nandigram, Purba Medinipur raised slogans of 'Go back TMC' after a party member reached the village.
Meanwhile, heavy security has been deployed in Nandigram, Purba Medinipur amid BJP worker's protest after a party worker died in an attack by miscreants on a few houses last night.
Polling in West Bengal is being held in seven phases of Lok Sabha polls. Polling has already been done in five phases and the voting for the remaining two phases will be held on May 25 and June 1. Votes will be counted on June 4.
In the sixth phase, polling will be held on May 25 in Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, and Bishnupur.
