Emergency Anniversary: BJP to observe Black Day on June 25
Jun 18, 2024
New Delhi [India], June 18 : The BJP will observe Emergency Anniversary on June 25 as a Black Day as on this day in 1975 former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had declared an Emergency in the country.
By observing Emergency Day across the country, the BJP intends to remind people of the dark and painful memories of the period which destroyed democracy across the country. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed an emergency in the entire country and people were sent to jail.
According to senior BJP sources, the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) prisoners will be honoured across the country on June 25 and seminars will be organized. The senior BJP leaders will organize press conferences at all places to refresh the memories of the Emergency. The party will also share the memories of Emergency on social media.
All senior leaders, and Union Ministers have been instructed to hold press conferences at different places on June 25.
The responsibility of conducting the programme has been given to the BJP's National General Secretaries Tarun Chugh, Dushyant Gautam and Vinod Tawde.
By observing Black Day across the country on June 25, the BJP aims to tell the country who had ended democracy and who had abolished the Constitution, a source told ANI.
Notably, during the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress and INDIA bloc had campaigned against the BJP and said that if the party came to power, democracy would end in the country and the Constitution would be abolished.
The source further added that a strategy has been made to highlight the double character of Congress behind observing Emergency Day. Those who talk about saving the Constitution and democracy will be shown a mirror.
Emergency was declared for 21 months from June 25, 1975 to March 21, 1977 by Indira Gandhi.
