Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], October 10 : There has been a "failure of Constitutional machinery" in Jharkhand, said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Babulal Marandi in a letter to Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Tuesday, while also accusing the state government of "being hostile" to requests of investigative agencies probing corruption in the state.
The former Chief Minister further claimed that he took "efforts to verify the veracity of the same" and found the allegation to be "true and correct".
He accused the state government of acting contrary to the "letter and spirit of the Constitution" which has resulted in the "breakdown of Constitutional machinery".
"The State Government and its officials have become hostile to the request of the Investigative Agencies probing money laundering and corruption in the state of Jharkhand. When the aforementioned information came to me, I took due efforts to verify the veracity of the same and found the allegations to be true and correct," the BJP chief said in his letter to Governor CP Radhakrishnan.
He further stated, "It seems that the investigative agencies have been writing to the office of the Chief Secretary, Government of Jharkhand and/or have requested them to take actions since the year 2022 but the same has been met with deaf silence and complete inaction."
The former CM requested that urgent necessary and corrective measures be taken and added "if non-cooperation persists then the President's Rule be imposed".
"That neither any reply has been provided to the Investigative Agencies nor any action has been taken especially in cases where overwhelming evidence has been provided by the agencies along with the said request," he added.
Marandi asserted that he had written to the Chief Secretary of the State as well as the Chief Minister but no reply has been received from either of them. "It is only reasonable for any individual to conclude that the State Government is actively shielding the accused persons in furtherance to a conspiracy," he added.
He further alleged that the inaction of government officials is designed to block the investigation of the agencies established by law.
"I would request you to urgently intervene so as to ensure that the Government of the State acts in accordance with the law/Constitution and make a query as to why such non-compliance be not treated as a failure or breakdown of Constitutional Machinery," Marandi added.
