New Delhi [India], October 1 : Ladakh MP Haji Hanifa on Tuesday arrived at the Singhu border between Delhi and Haryana after activist Sonam Wangchuk and others were detained by the police here late Monday night.
Speaking to ANI, Hanifa said that everyone is aware of how Ladakh has been having talks with the government for protecting the environmental and constitutional rights.
"We are all aware of for the last three years, we had been fighting for our rights peacefully. We even had talks with the government for the same but they stopped after the elections and the formation of the new government. We set out on foot from Leh under the banner of Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and Apex Body to present our views to the government. After Wangchuk was detained by the police, we marched to discuss our issues with the government. However, Wangchuk and the members, including several women, were detained at different areas," Hanifa said.
The Ladakh MP said the protestors only wanted to to hand over a memorandum of their demands to the government.
"We request PM Modi and Amit Shah that either we are given an area here in Delhi to provide us a place to conclude our march from where we can submit a memorandum or our leaders are spoken to in order to settle the manner. We have always sacrificed whatever we had for the nation. We expect just a little for Ladakh. The whole of Ladakh is closed and the situations might develop there if our demands are not met," he said.
Meanwhile, one of the members who was silently protesting said that injustice was being done with them.
"This is brute injustice to us. We have come here after crossing six to seven borders. We did not break any law and order. Around 300 people of us have been detained without any reason. We are just peacefully protesting and doing nothing else," he said.
