Free generic pharmacy shifted from its present location to new location in AIIMS

New Delhi [India], June 8 : The free generic pharmacy managed by HLL Lifecare Ltd in AIIMS, New Delhi is being shifted from its present location to a new location (former Pediatric OPD) in the AIIMS itself, the official statement read.
According to the AIIMS official statement, HLL Lifecare is involved in disbursing generic medicines, and the cost of the medicines being provided free of cost to patients is borne by AIIMS.
It has been alleged that the decrease in the allocated space will lead to inconvenience to the patients, as there will be a decrease in the number of serving counters.
"The present location of the pharmacy leads to patients assembling on the road in front of the pharmacy to collect medicines. This leads to traffic disruption, hampers the movement of other patients and vehicles as well as causes lots of inconvenience to the public, especially to the differently abled and sick patients," it stated.
The new proposed space has a waiting area in front of the counters, that will allow 100-200 patients to comfortably wait at a single point of time for receiving medicines, it added.
Contrary to the allegations, the total number of patients served in a day will not decrease, owing to the provision of a proper waiting area with the capacity to accommodate nearly 200 patients at a single time.
A routine inspection by the AIIMS officials revealed that the space previously allocated to HLL lifecare was being under-utilised.
The change of location will promote optimal utilisation, as the space vacated by HLL Lifecare will be utilized to open a much-needed outlet of orthotics and prosthetics for differently abled patients, with a dedicated trial area for fitting.
