Gandhi Jayanti: Odisha CM appeals to people to follow path of Mahatma Gandhi

Cuttack (Odisha) [India], October 2 : Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the state-level celebration of Gandhi Jayanti to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Telangapentha in Cuttack district, on Wednesday and appealed to the people to follow the Gandhi's philosophy.
"I appeal to the people that let us follow the path of Gandhi's philosophy and join hands to work together for the development of Odisha as well India," he said.
Odisha CM also had lunch at Antaryami Behera's residence at Adangdiha village in Telangapentha of Cuttack district.
He further informed that he'll visit Delhi for two days.
"I will be on visit to Delhi for two days. During this visit, I will invite investors to Odisha in large numbers. In these two days, I will hold one-to-one discussions with investors and urge them to come to the state to take part in an investors' summit," he said.
"On January 28th-29, 2025, the 'Make in Odisha' conclave will be held. Giving priority to the food processing, IT, chemicals and petrochemicals sectors, investments will be encouraged. We aim to get Rs 5 lakh crores worth of investment in the state in the next 5 years," the Odisha CM added.
Earlier, Majhi took part in an event organised on the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, State Legislative Assembly speaker Surama Padhy, and state ministers also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary at the premises of the Odisha Legislative Assembly in Bhubaneswar.
He also lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for significant steps towards promoting cleanliness and environmental sustainability with the launch of Swachhata Swachhta Abhiyan.
Participating in "Swachhta Abhiyan" on the occasion, the chief minister said in a post on X, "From open defecation-free villages to cleaner cities, the Swachh Bharat Mission, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, has empowered millions and created a cleaner, healthier India. Let's continue this vital journey together".
Swachhta Abhiyan is a nationwide campaign in India to promote hygiene and cleanliness, and eliminate open defecation. The campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014.
Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who is also known to be the 'Father of the nation'. The whole nation pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on this day and it is marked as a national holiday.
Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar town of Gujarat, as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi adopted a non-violent resistance and was at the forefront of the freedom struggle against colonial British rule with utmost patience. This led to India finally achieving its independence in 1947.
