Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], December 28 : In his address at the Congress' 'Hain Taiyyar Hum' rally in Maharashtra's Nagpur, Rahul Gandhi on Thursday exuded confidence that the grand old party will win elections in Maharashtra and across the country.
Speaking to the gathering at the Congress' 'Hain Taiyyar Hum' rally in Nagpur, Gandhi said, "This is a fight of ideologies. Together we are going to win elections in Maharashtra and the country," said the Congress leader.
"People think the freedom struggle was only against Britishers, no, it was also against the kings and rulers. Kings had a partnership with the British. Congress fought against that partnership for the people of the country. Before independence, there were no rights for the people of India. This is RSS ideology, we changed this ideology," he added.
"Before independence, there were 600 kings, and the people had no rights in this country, if a king liked land owned by a poor person, he would take it. All these rights are protected by the Constitution which was created by Ambedkar Gandhi Nehru with blood and sweat, this was done by Congress. BJP and RSS were against it," he said further.
"Our ideology says that the reins of the country should be in the hands of the people, the country will not be run by kings. We talk about (janshakti) power of the people, you give us all our laws, and the people of the country have fought for independence. The kings had a partnership with the British, and the Congress has fought against that partnership for the poor people," said Gandhi.
"I want to tell all the party workers in Maharashtra that you people are special. When I was in the Bharat Jodo Yatra and as soon as I reached Maharashtra, it struck me that this is the land of Congress, people in this land have understood the vichardhara of Congress without any explanation," he stated.
Earlier in the day, Congress MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi addressed the rally, and said, "There is a battle of two ideologies in the country".
The Congress kickstarted its campaign for 2024 Lok Sabha elections with the 'Hain Tayyar Hum' rally in Maharashtra's Nagpur on Thursday. The Grand Old Party is celebrating their 139th Foundation Day on 28 December.
