Oct 20, 2023
New Delhi [India], October 20 : Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Friday said that in collaboration with the industry and academia, the Ministry of Electronics and IT will start setting up the Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre in 2024.
He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision is for Indians to be involved in the leadership of semiconductor research.
"PM Narendra Modi has a vision of India becoming a semiconductor nation, India becoming a global power in semiconductors and electronics and for that, a large number of things have been implemented in the last 15 months," he added.
Chandrasekhar said that a very important part of this is to create, within India, the capabilities of being a leader in semiconductor research for the coming 10 years.
"To develop that institution, the Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre has worked for the last 3 months and created a design, objective and scope which will be a private-public partnership with the largest academic institutions and the most renowned research institutions of the world as well as India. They will partner and create a semiconductor research centre," he said.
"The design, area in which it should focus etc. have all been today authored and put in a high-quality report by the experts. What the centre should be and look like has been put in a report and we will submit this report to the government for approval. I'm hopeful that in the year 2024, we should have the beginning of this institution taking shape," Chandrasekhar said.
The minister said there would be no constraint on the investment that the institution would need.
