Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], July 18 : Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday attended the 'Khatamuhurt' (foundation stone laying) programme under the 'Shramik Basera Yojana' at Jagatpur in Ahmedabad.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi's slogan of 'Shramev Jayate' will be realized by the Gujarat Government's 'Shramik Basera Yojana'. Construction workers and their families will get decent accommodation close to Kadia Naka. Also, benefit of health facilities, including free health check-ups and food at a nominal rate under the Shramik Annapurna Yojana near the site," the Chief Minister Patel hailed PM Modi while addressing the event.
He further said, "Similarly, Pandit Deendayalji's slogan 'Har Haat Ko Kam, Har Kam Ko Samman' has been taken to heart by the Central and State Governments, and various initiatives have been taken to enable the common man to earn a good livelihood and live with dignity. The workers have made a fundamental contribution in making Gujarat the growth engine of India. The government will leave no stone unturned to raise the standard of living of the workers by providing all facilities, including food, health, housing, and income."
CM Patel mentioned that it is the intention of the state government to provide accommodation facilities to about three lakh labourers.
"Under the 'Shramik Basera Yojana', the state government aims to provide accommodation facilities to around 3 lakh labourers by preparing temporary accommodation near various Kadianakas of Gujarat in the next three years. The government has made a provision of Rs. 1500 crore. The workers will get accommodation facilities including clean water, a kitchen, electricity, CCTV, toilets, street lights, security, sanitation, and medical facilities," CM Patel wrote on social media platform X.
The Gujarat CM expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that the labourers despite working so hard, do not have housing facilities for their own families.
"How sad is it, isn't it, that a labouring man builds big buildings for other people but does not have housing facilities for his own family? It is with this feeling that the state government has launched a scheme called the 'Shramik Basera Yojana'. Under this scheme, the government will construct temporary housing facilities, i.e., 'Shramik Basera', for labourers near Kadianaka at various places in the state. The worker and his family will be provided accommodation at a very nominal cost. Along with this, food will also be provided under the 'Shramik Annapurna Yojana', and facilities, including a free health check-up, will also be arranged," wrote the Chief Minister.
Under this scheme, 17 Shramik Baseras to be constructed in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, and Rajkot in the first phase were inaugurated today at Jagatpur. About 15,000 workers will benefit.
The Shramik Basera portal for registration to avail the scheme was also launched on the occasion.
