Gurgaon (Haryana) [India], May 1 : Actor-turned-politician and Congress candidate from Gurgaon Lok Sabha constituency Raj Babbar on Wednesday alleged that there has been no development during the reign of the BJP government in the state and that those who are in power are only interested in revenue from Gurgaon, not the people's development.
"Go to the people of Gurgaon and ask them if the previous MPs resolved the issues of Gurgaon. Have the people of Gurugram received their due rights?" Babbar told ANI here.
"The state government left them helpless. Our government is going to come to power. Did you see any work going on here in 10 years? Did any agency do anything here in 10 years? Name one...Those in power want to just revenue from Gurugram," he added.
The Congress named Babbar as the party candidate for the Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat yesterday. The candidates for the remaining eight Lok Sabha seats which the Congress is contesting in Haryana were announced last week.
Babbar has earlier been Congress's Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh
In the Gurgaon seat, Babbar is pitted against BJP's Rao Inderjit Singh who has been representing the constituency since 2008. Singh quit the Congress to join the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014. He won the constituency in the 2019 election by bagging over three lakhs more votes than his nearest rival.
Another prominent candidate from the constituency is Bollywood singer and rapper Rahul Fazilpuria fielded by the Jannayak Janta Party.
In Haryana, Congress has a seat-sharing arrangement with the Aam Aadmi Party according to which Congress is contesting on nine out of ten Lok Sabha seats in the state and the AAP is contesting on the remaining one seat.
AAP State President Sushil Gupta is the joint INDIA bloc candidate from Kurukshetra.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the state, the BJP swept the state, capturing all 10 seats. In the 2014 elections, the BJP won 7 seats, while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won 2 seats and the Congress secured only one seat.
The Lok Sabha elections for the 10 parliamentary constituencies of Haryana are going to be held in a single phase on May 25.
