Hapur incident: Advocates on strike to return to work from today

Lucknow (Uttra Pradesh) [India], September 15 : Advocates who were on strike against the lathi charge restored on them by Uttar Pradesh's Hapur Police while they were staging a protest over an alleged 'fabricated' case, will return to work from Friday, said Shiv Kishore Gaur, Chairman of UP Bar Council on Thursday.
The decision comes after a fruitful meeting held between the UP Bar Council and the representatives of the state government and both sides agreed upon several issues.
Tension escalated between the police and lawyers as Hapur Bar Association's officials and members earlier on August 29 were staging a protest over an alleged 'fabricated' case filed against a woman lawyer and her father and the police resorted to lathi-charge against the lawyers.
"Today a meeting was held and it was a fruitful meeting, strict action will be taken against those who are culprits in the incident (Hapur Incident). A committee will be formed on the Advocate Protection Act. With this, the lawyers of UP will return to work from tomorrow (Friday),” said Shiv Kishore Gaur.
Further talking about the decisions taken during the meeting between UP Bar Council and the state government Prashant Sharma Atal, Vice President of UP Bar Council said, "The advocates in the state were on strike (against the Hapur Incident) for the past few days. Today a meeting was held in connection with this. It was a fruitful meeting. Many matters were agreed upon in the meeting between the UP Bar Council and the government.”
“A committee will be formed on the Advocate Protection Act. Strict action will be taken against all those cops responsible (for the Hapur Incident) as per the SIT reports and with this, the lawyers of UP will return to work," Atal said further.
Meanwhile, a judicial committee constituted by the Allahabad High Court to investigate the incident will meet on September 16, an official statement said.
According to the statement, Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta has been appointed as the Chairman of the Committee formed to look into the grievances raised at the Bar in respect of the incident that occurred in Hapur.
"A Committee with its Chairman Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta has been constituted to look into the grievances raised at the Bar in respect of the incident that occurred in District Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. The Chairperson of the Committee has been pleased to direct that the committee shall hold its meeting in the Committee Room, of the Allahabad High Court at 11.00 A.M. on 16.09.2023," the official statement said.
The statement further said that people can also participate in the proceedings virtually, for which the VC link will be uploaded shortly.
"By this notice, the persons aggrieved in the incident/members of the Public concerned are hereby informed that they may place their grievance/relevant material in the matter, before the Committee for its consideration. Those interested in participating in the proceedings in the virtual mode may do so, for which the VC link for joining the Committee proceedings virtually shall be uploaded shortly," it said.
