Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], June 29 : After former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren got bail in the land scam case, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that the JMM leader has not fulfilled any promise he made in the Vidhan Sabha.
CM Himanta, who is BJP's Jharkhand Assembly election co-in-charge, also emphasised that the BJP will win the next assembly elections in Jharkhand.
"He is a JMM leader and former CM. He has a role to play in the elections. Hemant Soren has not fulfilled any promise he made in the Vidhan Sabha. Now that he is out, we will be able to have a debate with him. Home Minister Amit Shah is coming here on July 20 for our party meeting. We are going to win the elections in Jharkhand," the Assam CM said.
Sarma also met BJP leader Sudarshan Bhagat in Ranchi today.
This is Sarma's second visit to Jharkhand after being appointed as election co-incharge for the state.
Regarding his meeting with tribal leaders, Assam CM said that if the partymen work hard, the BJP can get good results from the Adivasi areas.
"To understand the challenges in front of us and how we would get the solution, I met the prominent tribal leaders. In the Lok Sabha elections this time, we had a lead in 4 seats. If we work hard, then we can get good results from the Adivasi areas," he said.
Notably, along with Sarma, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been appointed as the Jharkhand Assembly election in-charge.
Earlier in the day Sarma said that the election manifesto for the upcoming polls is being prepared.
"The tribal society has a very big role in the social system of Jharkhand. We have to address the basic problems of tribal society. The election manifesto is being prepared," Sarma told reporters here.
"I am trying to understand how we can work for the identity, economic, social and political development of the tribal society and how the BJP can participate in it. That is why I will try to meet people of the society today and will also try to go to some places...," the Jharkhand Assembly election co-in-charge said.
Hemant Soren was released from the Birsa Munda Jail following a bail order from the Jharkhand High Court.
Soren was arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in January on charges related to an alleged land scam and money laundering. The investigation concerns the purported generation of substantial proceeds through the forgery of official records, involving fake sellers and buyers to acquire large parcels of land worth crores.
