New Delhi [India], May 31 : Australia right-arm seamer Pat Cummins hailed the T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh's leadership skills as the latter is set to lead the Men in Yellow in the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
The ICC T20 World Cup will be played in the West Indies and the United States from June 1 to 29. USA and Canada will lock horns against each other in the tournament's opener at the Grand Prairie Stadium on Sunday.
"Mitch will be brilliant. He's a really experienced captain. He's captained WA, Scorchers and the Aussie team. He'll be super well supported. Everyone in that team loves playing underneath him so he'll do a great job. We are all there if he needs us, he can lean on us any time when he needs help but it's his show so we'll let him run it however he sees fit and he'll do a great job," Cummins was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Ausralia's left-arm spinner Ashron Agar also lauded Marsh for his captaincy whom he has played with in the Big Bash League for Perth Scorthers.
"He just genuinely cares about everyone. It's not about trying to be everyone's mate. It's about actually caring about who they are, caring about their families, and that makes you feel good. You might not always remember what he says but whenever you speak to Mitch you walk away feeling like you've been understood, you've been cared for, you've been listened to and that he's going to remember what you've said to him. And he doesn't discriminate. He talks to everyone. He talks to his best mates like he talks to a random human on the street. And I think that's such a great quality to have," Agar said.
Australia are in Group B along with arch-rivals England, Oman, Scotland and Namibia. Earlier this month, Australia named their squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup with Mitchell Marsh as team skipper.
Australia squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
