Heavy rainfall triggers flood-like situation in Gujarat's Navsari

Navsari (Gujarat) [India], July 26 : Heavy rains have put normal lives on hold in several parts of Navsari, Gujarat.
The spell of showers led to severe waterlogging in the area, increasing the woes of locals in the city.
In wake of the rainfall situation, District Collector Kshipra S Agre today inspected shelter homes set up for the rain affected people.
While speaking to ANI, Agre said, "110 people have been rescued and shifted to shelter houses here. The Municipal Corporation, Police, and Administration are working together and urging people to shift to shelter homes as a precaution.".
She appealed to residents of the Navsari area to cooperate with the officials and assured them that they would be treated well in the shelter homes.
On Friday, Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel also visited flood-affected areas of the Borsas area in the Anand district.
"Water has been filled in the low-lying areas due to heavy rainfall. Wherever garbage has spread, to stop the water-borne disease from spreading, the Arogya team, along with the doctors, are there," he said.
It is pertinent to note that heavy rains have wreaked havoc in various districts of Gujarat, leading to several to as many as eight deaths due to the deluge, taking the death toll to 61, officials said on Wednesday, July 24.
Earlier, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted an aerial survey of villages in the coastal districts of Saurashtra, especially Jamnagar and Devbhoomi Dwarka, to assess the situation caused by heavy rains.
In the review meeting with officials and representatives of Devbhoomi Dwarka and Jamnagar districts, the chief minister guided the district's administration to work with a zero-casualty approach to ensure people's safety during heavy rains.
Due to heavy rains in the coastal districts of Saurashtra, including Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, and Porbandar, over the past five days, water logging in the low-lying areas has affected normal life. The Chief Minister inspected the situation in the coastal belt and affected areas of Devbhoomi Dwarka.
