Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], January 16 : Andhra Pradesh Congress leader Janga Goutham on Tuesday extended his best wishes to YS Sharmila Reddy for being appointed as the new President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, marking a significant development for the party.
Expressing optimism, Goutham stated, "I hope that the Congress party will experience a revival in Andhra Pradesh under the capable leadership of Sharmila Reddy."
He also congratulated G Rudra Raju for being appointed as a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee.
Goutham also conveyed gratitude to Raju for his dedicated service as the President of PCC for over a year.
He acknowledged Raju's constructive efforts that strengthened the Congress party during his tenure.
Earlier today, several Congress leaders in Anantapuram district attempted to meet Prime Minister Modi, advocating for special status for Andhra Pradesh after which Goutham condemned the arrest of these Congress leaders.
The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) expressed strong disapproval of the police arrest of Hindupuram Congress leaders.
The Congress leaders, who conducted themselves in a democratic and peaceful manner, including APCC General Secretary Manohar Balaji and other town and district leaders, were arrested by the police.
In response to these arrests, APCC calls for the immediate release of the Congress leaders who were exercising their democratic rights to advocate for the interests of the state.
"The party reaffirms its commitment to pursuing the cause of special status for Andhra Pradesh through peaceful and lawful means," he said.
YS Sharmila had joined the Congress earlier this month. She also merged her party YSR Telangana Party in Congress.
Congress leaders in Andhra Pradesh are hopeful of the party's prospects in the state after the party's victory in Telangana assembly polls in November last year. Congress ousted the Bharat Rashtra Samithi from power in Telangana.
Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh would be held along with Lok Sabha polls, expected in April-May this year.
