Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 21 : Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain said that the BJP-led government should inform how many schools, bridges and hospitals were made in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the last eight years.
Assembly elections are underway in Jammu and Kashmir, with the first phase of voting held on September 18. The second phase is scheduled for September 25 and the third phase for October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 8.
"(Union Home Minister) Amit Shah ji and the BJP should inform what they are going to do for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the next five years in case they form the government. They should inform how many bridges, schools, and hospitals were made and how much investment came during the last eight years. How many jobs were offered to the people? And how much were terror attacks reduced? They should talk about it," Hussain told ANI in Jammu.
The Congress MP added, "They should provide data and then we can debate over that. They are talking about giving five lakh jobs. One lakh sanctioned vacancies are vacant that were not filled in the last eight years.
Hitting back at the BJP, the Congress MP asked, "Now there are scams. Mining scam, sand scam and recruitment scam. Was it done by the three families (National Conference, People's Democratic Party and Congress) or Congress party?"
Lashing out at the BJP, Hussain alleged, "They are awarding tenders and contracts to outsiders...What have you (BJP) done for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the last eight years?"
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday slammed the Congress and the National Conference, saying that during their rule, terrorism increased in Jammu and Kashmir with thousands of people being killed.
"Congress and National Conference ruled here for 35 years, terrorism increased, 40 thousand people were killed, Jammu and Kashmir remained closed for three thousand days, it remained immersed in darkness for eight years. You (Congress and National Conference) are responsible for this," Shah said in an election rally at Surankot in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Congress and the National Conference are fighting the polls in alliance. The PDP, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and People's Conference, to name a few, are other parties in the fray for 90 Assembly seats.
The assembly polls are being held after a gap of nearly ten years and are the first one since the abrogation of Article 370.
